FRIENDMATCH SAFETY TIPS

Last updated: November 17, 2025

At FriendMatch, our mission is to help people build meaningful, platonic friendships.
Most members use the platform respectfully and genuinely — but whenever you connect with new people online or meet someone in person, it’s important to use common-sense safety precautions.

These tips are here to help you feel confident, aware, and in control.

1. Protect your personal information

  • Use a nickname or first name only for your username.
  • Keep details like your home address, workplace, and phone number private until you feel ready.
  • Never share financial information, passwords, or personal identification documents with anyone you meet online.

2. Keep conversations on FriendMatch at first

  • Use the built-in messaging system until you feel comfortable.
  • Be cautious if someone asks to move to email, text, WhatsApp, or social media right away.
  • If someone pressures you to share private contact details, that’s a red flag.

3. Trust your instincts

  • If something feels “off,” unusual, or too intense — take a step back.
  • You never owe anyone a reply or continued conversation.
  • If a user makes you uncomfortable, you can block or report them.

Your intuition is one of your best safety tools.

4. Meeting in person? Use these guidelines

Meeting a new friend can be wonderful — just take it step by step.

For first meetups:

  • Meet in a public place like a café, park, or busy community area.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you’re going and who you’re meeting.
  • Arrange your own transportation so you can arrive and leave independently.
  • Avoid isolated areas for first meetings.

If meeting virtually:

  • Use platforms you trust (Zoom, FaceTime).
  • Don’t screen-share personal documents or sensitive information.

5. Red flags to watch for

If someone does any of the following, proceed with caution or stop interaction:

  • Pressures you to meet immediately
  • Asks for money, gift cards, donations, or financial help
  • Asks you to share personal or private photos
  • Asks for your address too early
  • Shares inconsistent stories or contradictions
  • Tries to guilt you for wanting boundaries
  • Asks you to keep your connection “secret”
  • Tries to move communication off-platform immediately

Trust patterns, not excuses.

6. Protect your devices

  • Keep your apps and antivirus software updated.
  • Avoid downloading files or clicking suspicious links from strangers.
  • Use strong, unique passwords for your accounts.

7. Report concerns

You help keep the community safe by reporting:

  • Harassment
  • Fake profiles
  • Suspicious behavior
  • Scams
  • Violations of FriendMatch rules

We review reports as quickly as we can.

8. Remember: your safety comes first

FriendMatch does not perform background checks and cannot verify every member.
You are always in control of how much you share, how fast you move, and whether you meet someone.

If something doesn’t feel right, end the conversation or leave the meeting — no explanation required.
