How FriendMatch Launched on Dragon's Den
Most startups launch with a press release, a social media campaign, or maybe a few online ads.
FriendMatch launched a little differently.
One of our first major public appearances was on Dragon's Den, where I had the opportunity to introduce the concept of friendship matching to a television audience and explain why making friends as an adult can be more difficult than most people realize.
Rather than simply talking about FriendMatch, I decided to demonstrate how it worked.
Before appearing on the show, I found a potential friend match for each of the Dragons based on their interests, personalities, and lifestyles. It was a fun way to showcase the idea behind the platform and bring the concept of friendship matching to life.
Stepping into the Den was both exciting and intimidating, but it gave FriendMatch exposure at a critical point in the company's journey. Thousands of people discovered the platform, learned about the idea behind intentional friendship building, and helped fuel the early growth of the community.
At the time, the concept was still relatively new. Most websites focused on dating, networking, or professional connections. FriendMatch was built around a different idea: helping people find meaningful friendships based on shared interests and compatibility.
Looking back, Dragon's Den was an unforgettable way to introduce FriendMatch to the world.
Today, FriendMatch continues to help people meet new friends, expand their social circles, and build meaningful connections based on common interests, hobbies, lifestyles, and goals.
And yes—the Dragons each got their own friend match on TV.
Have you seen the episode? We'd love to hear what you thought of the pitch.
